Where does the AZNPC stand with meaningful use and Obama Care?
The meaningful use of Electronic Health Records to positively impact patient safety and healthcare delivery is essential to the successful transformation of our healthcare system from a focus on sick care to a focus on wellness, prevention, health maintenance and patient centered care. All eligible providers should make an effort to participate in the meaningful use incentive program offered by CMS to help pay for implementation and maintenance of health information technology to support patient care and reduce barriers to adoption of electronic health records. While it would be preferable that NPs would be eligible providers under both Medicare and Medicaid, our status as eligible providers under Medicaid is a positive step.
The ANA/Arizona Nurses Association have publicly stated and demonstrated their support for full implementation and funding of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). As a chapter of the Arizona Nurses Association, the Arizona NP Council, AzNA Chapter 9 supports PPACA both in concept and as the law of the land.
