Position Description

The Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant works cooperatively with MD's, other PA's/NP's, RN's and other allied health personnel. Responsibilities also include giving direction to various allied health staff. Tasks may include: comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a diagnostic impression, developing and implementing a treatment plan, monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions, prescription of pharmacological agents and treatments and non-pharmacological therapies, and offering counseling and education to meet patient needs.

In addition to the above requirements, at least 50% of days worked are based at the hospital (rounds, service, or shift work), and provides Night, Weekend, and Holiday service.

Qualifications:

For the Nurse Practitioner: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and nurse practitioner program. Current RN license, Advanced Practice Certificate, and Prescribing and Dispensing Certificate in Arizona. Acute Care Certification required.  Certification as nurse practitioner by an approved certifying organization.

For Physician Assistant: Graduation from a university program approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education (ARCE) for the Physician Assistant. Must be certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Must have Arizona licensure as a Physician Assistant under the supervision of a Mayo Clinic physician upon hire.

Internal employees must attach the three most recent performance appraisals to the online application.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Ability to manage time and stress effectively and adapt to unpredictable situations within the patient care setting.
  • Two to five years of clinical experience required.
  • Primary care, acute care, and/or surgical experience preferred.
  • Strong computer skills in an Electronic Medical Record preferred.

License or Certification:

  • Must be certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Must have Arizona licensure as a Physician Assistant under the supervision of a Mayo Clinic physician upon hire.
  • Maintains prescribing and dispensing privileges in Arizona.
  • Must provide evidence of application for DEA certificate upon hire, obtain DEA certificate within 90 days of hire, and maintain certificate thereafter unless waived by department/division.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date.
  • Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
  • Maintains ACLS and PALS certification as required by specific department or division.

Exemption status: Exempt
Compensation Detail: Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum salary every 2 weeks is approx $xxxx.xx, based on a full-time position.
